I started off by measuring and cutting the shape for the coat, to achieve a neat finish I flipped the top fabric (orange) upside down, facing away from me lay on top of the under fabric (white)
I then pinned the fabric into place and begun to sow the pieces together, leaving a small opening on the side where I can pull the fabric through to turn the right way round once I've sown it together...
After sowing all the sides together, with the whole I left, I pulled the fabric though to turn the right way round, and then hand stitched it together.
Then measured and cut a piece of under fabric and some reflective material, and used the same process as before. turning the fabric facing down and sow, this ensures that stitch is neat and tucked in. I once again lets a small section in stitched so I could pull the fabric though, and then hand stitched it together once done.
I then hand stitched the orange button onto one side of the back panel, and on the other side I added a slit and again, using hand stitch I pulled in the lose thread and tried my best at neatening it up.
I then pinned in place where I wanted the back panel to sit on the coat, ensuring it will sit nicely and comfortably around the dogs belly.
I then, using velcro stick down the two side opposite sides in the correct place and made sure the attached properly and sat right together.
I then went further ensuring the velcro will stick and not peal on the edges, I hand stitched it down, as well as having the security of the glue.
FINISHED PRODUCT
- I'm really impressed with how this turned out,and fits well and comfortably on the dogs body shape. If I was to do this again the only things i'd do differently would be to tuck in the two back sides near the dogs tail, making the fit more flattering and more of a higher fit.
